June 2, 2014—Crimson & Rye, a unique craft cocktail bar and restaurant is poised to open in Midtown’s Lipstick building on Monday, July 7, 2014. Imagine a cocooned drinking spot enveloped by burnished woods and the soft hue of lamps in stark contrast with the vast ceilings and iconic building’s lobby. Upon entry, guests are greeted with a warm handshake of utilitarian comfort from the lounge where easy leather armchairs and vintage carpets are scattered throughout. Swiveling barstools wrap around the oval-shaped bar, calling guests to the main attraction: Cocktails.

The team of experienced drink craftsmen, led by Luis Mendez (most recently of Mercer Kitchen) will welcome patrons with an at ease disposition and a long list of rye whiskeys, limited production bourbons and other craft spirits as well as cocktail classics like Manhattans, Negronis, and Whiskey Sours. The bar staff will produce their own ginger beers daily and proprietary tinctures and bitters weekly. A Mendez-designed cocktail full of flavor and smoke--The Hickory Smoked Old-Old Fashioned--is composed of a combination of house made and orange Angostura bitters with Old Overholt Straight Rye Whiskey, orange zest and hickory smoke. The bar will open at 11 am Monday through Saturday and close at 1 am Monday through Thursday and 2 am Fridays and Saturdays.

The menu will be suited to casual lunches and post-work dining over shared plates, craft beers, and a wide range of wines by the glass and bottle. Open for lunch Monday through Friday and dinner fare Monday through Saturday, at Crimson & Rye bar-goers will enjoy shared plates like Warm Savory Corn Pancakes with American Sturgeon Caviar and daily carving selections like Roasted Organic Willie Bird Turkey Breast hand carved over seasonal slaw with Brooklyn pickles and warm potato salad. Additionally, local oysters, artisanal cheeses and charcuteries will pair easily with post work cocktails and conversation.

The 2500-square foot space will seat 70 inside, 40 on the sidewalk patio and 20 around the bar.
