I've worked in plenty of kitchens over the years, some truly magnificent, some more makeshift, and I've turned out plenty of good meals from both. But there is still something special about cooking and eating outdoors, especially those first burgers off the grill as we kick off the summer season. Whether perfectly juicy or a little charred on edges, or served from a little hibachi on the beach or a fancy gas grill on a landscaped patio, they are my favorite introduction to the simple but sociable pleasure of eating al fresco. It's anyone's guess why cooking and eating in the open air makes food taste better, and if you can’t make that happen in your own backyard, come enjoy one of ours.

The unofficial start of summer is here and so is the best of eating and drinking outdoors. It all starts with National Burger Day on Monday, May 28. Grab one this weekend at one of our restaurants and bars below.
